Who is the better actor to never win an oscar?

A friend and I had this conversation last night, what does everyone think.

Both of these guys should probably have one or two each.

I agree that he deserves it too. But Tom Cruise (ignoring the scientology thing) has been in A TON of great movies, and IMO he is just as good an actor as anyone. How he didn't get one for Rainman or Jerry Maguire is beyond me.

On an side note, I think it's total BS that Ben Affleck didn't even get nominated for an oscar for best director for Fargo when he just WON best director in the critics choice awards. The academy has been losing it's credibility with me lately.

This was a Coen production all the way, Joel is given credit, Ethan helped. Affleck doesn't have the chops to compete w/those 2!!!

Johnny Depp, Edward Norton, and Robert Downey Jr. are all better than Cruise and they haven't won either. IMHO

It's just Hollywood politics. They figure he is young and will have more chances to win later on in life.

I'm looking at the nominees know and can already tell who's going to win.

Hugh Jackman. The rest of the people have already won. Bradley Cooper isn't seen as a serious enough actor. Denzel has already won. Lewis has already won twice before. Joaquin Phoenix has already won.

Cruise plays more diverse characters. Leonardo has been stuck in the retro gangsta with a top hat type roles for a while now. Cruise is the better actor for my money.
